BOTIL was registered as a Joint Venture Company in India in the late 80s with Baker Hughes formerly Baker International (Baker Oil Tools Division) acquiring 40% equity, the remaining 60% being held by Indian interests. Technology to BOTIL was irreversibly transferred by Baker Hughes (Baker Oil Tools Division) against payment of a pre-agreed sum.

BOTIL commenced manufacture (commercial production) in 1989 and has been manufacturing products, based on the original drawings obtained from Baker Hughes since inception.
